Poster Design

In this assignment, we were expected to design an n a digital poster for an imaginary TEDUARCH lecture. The elements to be used in the poster are; a photograph, TEDUARCH header, studio header, the title of the lecture, name of the lecturer, a short explanation about the lecture and the lecturer, the date, and the venue of the lecture.
In my opinion, it was a difficult but useful assignment for us because this was our first experience in Photoshop.

Orthographic Projection

In this assignment, we were expected to draw an orthographic set. Orthographic projection is a means of representing three-dimensional objects in two dimensions, is a form of parallel projection, in which all the projection lines are orthogonal to the projection plane, (typically) consists of three different views: a front view, a top view, and a side view, the same scale is used for all three of the drawings, and their lengths, widths, and heights are all lined up.

Comparing Seagram Building and Singer Building

The Singer Building by Ernest Flagg in New York and Seagram Building by Mies van der Rohe in New York both have frames, grids when they were in the construction process. The presence of the grids during construction is already expected. However, the Seagram Building kept the grid issue when it’s completed but in The Singer Building, the grids serve as a purpose for the skeleton of the building. After the construction is completed we cannot see those grids. The transparent layer in the Seagram Building helps us to see those grids but The Singer Building is covered with another reddish, thick, opaque layer. While talking about layers we can also see the layers in The Singer Building and Seagram Building. In the Seagram Building by Mies van der Rohe, we can see those layers clearly because of the transparent material. In the construction picture, we can see those light gray rectangular grids and in the completed pictures on top of the light gray grids, we can see the black small rectangular grids. These are the layers that I can see and identify from the pictures but maybe there are more that I cannot see. In The Singer Building by Ernest Flagg, we can also mention layers but those layers are different from the Seagram Building. In my opinion, the grid layer in the Seagram Building should be considered as the building itself but the grid layer in The Singer Building just helps to support the building so we cannot consider the grid layer as part of the structure. It’s just an advisor or for example, squared paper that helps us to write between the lines and write aligned so we can consider the grid layer like this example.
